Stoughton's Finest Visit with the West Kindegarten

This week our Kindergarten students were excited to visit with  members of the Stoughton Fire and Police Departments. Students were able to "tour" the various vehicles that Officer Faria, Detective Hardy, Officer Lydstone and Lieutenant Campbell presented to them. They were even greeted by Cak, Officer Lydstone's canine partner.
Lieutenant Campbell explains all the "parts" of the Fire truck.

Grade 4 studies the Great Depression

The fourth grade is currently reading Bud, Not Buddy. The book takes place during the great depression and the main character, Bud, is truly feeling the effects. Bud is a homeless orphan and is on a quest to find his family. On his journey

Tiffany and Ella create the Grade 4
"Hoovervilles" display of student work.

he encounters Hoovervilles. These villages sprung up all around the United States in places that had little to no money. They were named Hoovervilles after President Herbert Hoover. to show him how horrible the country was doing. They were meant to place blame on the president for the depression. The fourth grade has drawn their interpretations of Hoovervilles as it was explain in Bud, Not Buddy.

Flowers are Blooming!

Ms. Faria's Kindergarten class recently planted their Sunflower seedlings. These plants were started by the students in the classroom as part of their Science curriculum. We are fortunate that they will be adorning the West School grounds.

Books for Bingo!

PTO sponsored Books for Bingo was a great night for our families. Students and their families had fun together as they waited for their numbers to be called. Books were plentiful for all children. The evening culminated with the raffle prizes; most notably the ride to school with the Stoughton Police and Fire Departments.

Spring is Here! Baseball is Back!

Opening day of major league baseball is surely a sign that Spring is finally here. The West School Community celebrated with a Baseball Spirit Day on April 4th. Staff and students wore their favorite baseball apparel.

We started the day with "Baseball" music playing throughout the building. It was a fun day for all!
